About the roleTo ensure we contract for our projects as effectively as possible.For our customers’ sake we need to ensure our portfolio of HVDC projects that transfer clean, green energy throughout Great Britain is contracted and delivered efficiently. Not only will these projects make a significant contribution to Net Zero, they will also form part of the solution to the issue of energy security, allowing us to utilise more and more homegrown power.If you would like to be involved in this vital transition, our Quantity Surveyor role might be for you.If you are an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to take responsibility for your own projects and work on high value, complex and challenging schemes on and offshore, we would love to hear from you.What you’ll be doingContract administration
- You will lead in reviewing entitlements and assessing the time and cost impact of change events in multiple contract families, from NEC4 and FIDIC to bespoke form.
- You will lead the payment application and assessment process making recommendations to the project managers for certification.
- You will ensure general contract compliance on a range of matters from bonds, collateral warranties and retention to programme acceptance, periods for reply and more.
- You will lead in the development and management of cost forecasts with the project team, including suggestions to mitigate cost increases
Internal governance
- Helping your project team develop and maintain cost forecasts will be a key responsibility.
- You will lead in contract risk reviews, including maintaining and updating risk management software and undertake risk pricing.
- You will assist in ensuring project compliance with National Grid governance processes and procedures
Stakeholder engagement
- You will build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders, including project managers, legal, compliance, planners, project controllers and finance, OEM’s and contractors.
- You will ensure effective communication between stakeholders. You will communicate concisely and consistently, reaching out to senior stakeholders for assistance when it is needed.
- You will help support and mentor Associate Quantity Surveyors and Graduates as required
Pre-contract involvement
- You will support in procurement events with activities such as pricing schedule creation, contract and procurement strategy, building models to support technical requirements and more.
- You will lead on the commercial assessment of tenders and work as part of the commercial team.
- You will support negotiations on contract deviations, depending on the nature of the contract.
- You will work with the procurement team to ensure that internal processes are adhered to as well as procurement processes.
- You will support with reviews and feedback into project estimation and funding applications.
- Reach out and work with other departments for requirements such as finance, treasury, regulation and technical.
About you
- Methodical and process driven, you are good at gathering data and information to accurately assess an issue or event. When you do arrive at a contractual decision you can back your own judgement, confident that you have completed all the necessary steps. You are also an effective communicator who’s unafraid to ask for help.
- You have a degree in quantity surveying or a related discipline such as construction management or construction law. You have previous experience as an associate or junior quantity surveyor and a strong understanding of NEC contracts but will be expected to understand other contracts.
- Ideally you have experience on infrastructure projects, but this isn’t essential. You might have a contractor or consultant background.

- HVDC Experience
- Membership of a professional institute in a relevant discipline, such as the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or similar.
